My best work in terms of design layout and time invested in this project. While working on it, I learned how to use InDesign, develop and create, and think like a designer. I received a high grade for this work, and it taught me many aspects of design and how to invest my time in my work as effectively as possible.

Process

We were given the task of creating a magazine in the style of a specific designer and his art movement. Initially, I chose Andy Warhol and his pop art movement, but my work shifted more towards the style of Jake Phelps and his Trasher magazines.

After receiving negative feedback from my teacher, I realised that I needed to change the style of my work and chose constructivism as the art movement and Alexander Rodchenko's work as my source of inspiration.

As I progressed through the work, I constantly changed the layout and tried new perspectives and approaches.

The more I worked on new layouts, the more changes and possible improvements I saw for other pages.

Summary

From the pages I made, I want to highlight the front cover, San Francisco and Tony Hawk ones; I like them the most. The usage of shapes, texts, subheadings and images has resulted in an appealing and vibrant design. From that point, I understood how to use shapes correctly to imitate Rodchenko's vision and follow the constructivism art movement. Additionally, I want to emphasise the page I like the least; the back cover could be more vivid and realigned as it lacks content and feels a bit off. I learned a lot as I was doing it, from learning InDesign to better understanding design and how to make better artworks.

Clockwork Orange Book Cover

View

I consider this work to be one of the most labour-intensive projects I have ever undertaken. I had to change it along the way; it was called lazy and wrong, but even though it is not in its original form, it was completed. Thanks to this work, I learned to bring a design concept to completion and to the best possible version, and not to be afraid to change everything along the way. It also helped me improve my Adobe skills.

Process

We were given the task of choosing a book from a suggested list and designing a cover for it in the style of typography. At first, I was choosing between Narnia and Lord of the Rings, but after some unsuccessful sketches, I decided to try something for Clockwork Orange and draw some sketches for it.

After the feedback session, I was advised to make a book cover for the Clockwork Orange one. I tried my first attempts and mock-ups in Illustrator.

As I progressed through the work, I constantly changed the layout and tried new perspectives and approaches.

This is what I ended up with.

But after presenting my work to the teacher, she said it was wrong and lazy and that I had misunderstood the essence of the task. I should add that I did this work at night because I couldn't find more time due to my part-time job. As a result, during the presentation, I responded sharply to the teacher's words, and she called my work lazy. After this feedback, I spent the entire second half of that day and the morning of the next day developing a new design concept and ended up with these options.

Summary

I really like the back cover of this book, the shading on the word "by" and the Antony Burgess' tongs that hold the short description of the book. I really like how they turned out. On the front cover, I can highlight the orange, the use of colour, and the glass with letters in the shape of spilled milk. I am glad I spent so much time on this work; the changes and time invested in it were worth it.

Furry Friends WebSite

View Website

I don't think I've ever put as much time into any other project as I have into this one. I thought carefully about every element, its placement, and how it would look in the overall picture. To be honest, this site is not yet optimised for mobile and tablet screens, as I still haven't found the time to finish this part. But for desktops, this site is fully functional. I am still eager to finish it, as working on this website has given me the opportunity to feel confident with code and website development.

Process

The assignment itself was designed to last for most of the semester and the Web Design 2 module. The task involved dividing the website development into subgroups and working on it gradually. The first parts were Colour Scheme and Sitemap.

Next, I had to think about and draw low fidelity layouts for the mobile and desktop versions..

Then I started on wireframes for both the mobile and desktop versions.

I also found a website where I could make a logo and, taking into account my chosen colours, designed a logo for the website.

But something still felt off, so while developing high fidelity mock-ups, I decided to change the colour scheme to a darker one, which, in my opinion, made the website more comfortable and pleasant.

Summary

I don't regret the time I spent on this work and to deploy my very first website on GitHub. It taught me how to search for information on the internet, not to be afraid to make changes, and how to find the right solutions to problems. I am looking forward to finishing the mobile version of this website, and I am grateful to my teacher and the module for the opportunity to do this work.

Queen Group Website

View Website

The first website I created with the group, and the first one in which I used several JavaScript libraries: Bootstrap, Anime, React. It was a very useful experience; I learned new styles, understood how to work with JS libraries, and worked with experienced people.

Process

We worked on this project for almost the entire second semester, starting with research and ending with its presentation. We decided to start by choosing a Colour Scheme and possible fonts.

Then we moved on to the SiteMap and UserJourneyMap.

We also made wireframes for our website.

We decided to make the logo using the "punk's not dead" font.

During the development of the site, we encountered many problems, such as weird button positions and non-adjustable pictures. All the problems were fixed with good research and CSS work.

Development proceeded quickly and efficiently. I was tasked with creating the HTML skeleton for the site, and my teammates later began implementing JS features such as anime, Bootstrap, and React to the project.

Summary

It was an awesome experience. During development, I had to learn and figure out js libraries and also work with some great teammates: Arvidas Zhukas and Maksym Drozdovskyi. I don't regret a single minute I spent on this project and am really happy with the final result. I look forward to working on similar projects, developing as many websites as possible, and improving my coding skills.

Empathy Group Documentary

Watch

Annual group project. We started with a clothing brand, then moved on to feminism and wanted to make a website on this topic. The concepts changed one after another until we finally settled on empathy and making a documentary film. I gained unforgettable experience working in a team with high-quality media creators. I improved my communication and technical skills in the field of filmmaking.

Process

In the second half of the first semester, we developed the concept of empathy, and in the second semester, we began the actual work on our project.

We decided to start by creating questions for peer interviews and filming them.

Then we found a real psychologist, wrote questions for her, and also filmed an interview with her.

We got to the point of shooting b-rolls and writing a script for the film.

After filming all the parts of the film, we moved on to post-production: video and sound editing.

When I was doing the final editing, I realised that we didn't have enough b-rolls, so I filmed some more to fill in the short film.

Summary

I can say that this work was not easy for me or for any of us, but in the end we achieved a decent result. It was a very good team experience, and I am grateful to Max, Liam, Vidmante and Cian for their work.

Route 66 Website UI/UX

View Website

This was my first big project done in figma. This assignment lasted the entire first semester, and we managed to go through all the pre-production stages, including client definition, competitor analysis, personas for target users, creating an information diagram, selecting a colour scheme, wireframing, and mock-up making. I have attached the scope document, so you can see all the stages of this project if you wish.

View Scope

Process

After all completed analysis, we started working on the customer journey, which was the first practical task for this project.

Then we moved on to personas, including primary, secondary and occasional.

Next, we created an information diagram. Interestingly, I started with a large sketch and post-it stickers, and then, after defining the diagram, I moved on to creating it.

Finally, I made the first wireframe.

And here is the first mock-up.

After creating all the interactions, I started prototyping.

Summary

It was a very good process and job, and I really enjoyed working under the supervision of Helen, our lecturer. She very professionally divided the assignment into stages and distributed them evenly throughout the semester. The work went smoothly and well, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I can't wait to start and complete another UI/UX design.
